Is It Worth It To Add Video To Your Blog

Are You Working Smart Or Hard?

Who doesn’t want to increase the popularity of their blog? You would be lying to yourself if you said otherwise.  Everyone wants to have more visitors and become an authority within their niche

But how do you do that? You have to keep your readers engaged. And one of the most effective ways to do that is to add video to your blog. This is not a new concept. Many people have vlogs where rather than writing articles, they post videos. Not only is video highly engaging and difficult to look away from, it’s also highly persuasive and very personal.

Creating Your Vlog

Believe it or not, the best way to create a vlog is by creating a YouTube channel. This YouTube channel doesn’t have to be something special; it can be an extension of your blog.  The best part of YouTube is that they let you upload videos which you can then easily share on social media and embed into your blog.

Next you’ll need to create your videos. To do this, all you need is a camera (your phone camera is likely good enough if it can record in 1080p). Now that you got a camera covered, you need good content. Here is very you work smart, not hard.  You can actually be very successful by making video versions of your most popular blog posts. You can use them as scripts and just read them out!

If you are using your idevice to record your video, then use iMovies to quickly edit your video and upload them to YouTube. If you are using a traditional camera, then use an editing software like Camtasia to edit your videos.

Tips for Creating Great Looking Videos

Many people are shy to step in front of the camera. No worries…you can easily create content for your videos using PowerPoint presentations, or any animated ‘whiteboard’ software. I use Doodly.

Don’t forget to get inspirations from other videos in your niche to see how they do it and. Just keep in mind that inspiration is good, copying is bad.

Some universal truths that will help you to be a success are:

  • Consider your audio – try using a mic if possible.
  • Think about your lighting – don’t have light behind you or right in front of you. Ideally try to be lit from the side. This is called ‘Rembrandt lighting’.
  • Dress smart but don’t look like you’re trying too hard.
  • If you are reading, try to be as natural as possible.
  • Think about your background and try to set up a corner of a room that will look professional. You can even try hanging a poster with your logo on it for added bonus points!

Post a few videos regularly and don’t forget to upload them to your blog. You’ll find that it adds more to the site and brings in different readers!
